Home accessibility, power wheelchairs, roll in shower, wheelchair access

Update

Hello!

It has been awhile since I last blogged.

I took a break to deal with illnesses, their recoveries, and moving. There are so many mobility and other assistance aids to share!

Let’s start with my move. My last house worked in that it was one floor, but there were obstacles making using a wheelchair difficult.

My new house is one floor with a full unfinished basement with minimal floor transitions and wider doorways. It was new construction, and I was able to have the builder make a few key changes. I had him make the spacious walk-in shower, a roll in, add bathroom grab bars, remove a few doors, change the light switches to press toggle, and pave the driveway for smooth garage, house sidewalk, and street access.

Yea! A house where I can get in and out of the driveway! My last house had a street/driveway transition gutter that was not wheelchair friendly.

I have continued to make accessible changes and will cover them in future blogs.

In my next blog, I will discuss and show you the roll in shower.
