Pride Quantum Edge 3, Custom Touches

Hello! This time, I will describe the custom touches I have added to my wheelchair.

My wheelchair came with the usual black chair that gets hot in the summer and grabs at your clothing when you try to adjust your position. Unable to find cushion covers, I reached out to a FB mobility device customization group for ideas. Car seat cover was the response!

I looked for a cover that would fit my chair, matched my pink wheelchair, had reviews saying it stayed cool in the summer, and looked easy to install. It is one piece. The seat has an elastic front fit. The cover wraps over the seat back like a pillowcase. I use a bungee cord in the seat crease to keep the seat tight. I am still working on the best way to keep the seat back tight. I expect adding an elastic or two will fix the fit.

I am excited to share my joystick! Once I found the car seat cover, I wondered what other car items would help me. I found the standard joystick hard to hold at times. It pulls straight off to change. I found a car gear shift knob that came with a .25 inch diameter adapter for under $10! The size, shape, and silicone sides make this much easier for me.

I added a carry all pouch, which I also call my saddle bag. This one is labeled for wheelchairs. My last one was labeled for strollers. There is a zipper pocket with a finger loop pull. The metal zipper pull works better for me. I have outside pockets for the TV remote, fat pen, stylus, sunglasses, and phone. And it came in a pink pattern!

That leaves my cup holder. Finding a cup holder for a power wheelchair is tricky. Most clip on a post. My arm rests are flat topped and the right width for this velcro strapped cap style cup holder. I will also stuff a paper towel, a tissue, or a remote in the cup holder.

I will share future wheelchair custom touches, including holiday related transformations. Next, I will start to describe the many products  that help me manage my household from a wheelchair.
